Somehow, old text books never seem to die. And they are so interesting! This is one from 1924. It has stories about growing crops, other places around the world, and things like pictures of yaks from Tibet. The first chapter is pretty awesome — “Life in the olden Days”. What is olden to a person in 1924??

There have always been “early readers”. This one is dated 1899. “I have three hats” has an interesting picture. “This is a street in the city” shows a trolley car  and a horse and buggy.  Not much has changed in the animal and shape category.

Not much has changed in the study of math either. 9 times 7 is still 63. The word problems are pretty cool though. Examples include measuring a yard of silk, how many sheep does James have, how many pence in a shilling, and how many pigs can a farmer buy for 238 dollars at the rate of 7 dollars apiece?

vintage health book

One of the most interesting is the child’s health primer from 1885. The subtitle is ” with special reference to the effects of alcoholic drinks, stimulants, and narcotics upon the human system.” Did you know for example that “opium is put into soothing-syrups and these are sometimes given to babies to keep them from crying.” ? This book barely has any use!

At the time of this writing, these books can be found at everythingvintagesteph.com for 9.99 each. I have more as well that I will be listing. Have fun reading!
