colonial costume

colonial costume

Sometimes you get really lucky at the thrift stores and you find some great costumes! It is one of the best places to shop for costumes to resell or use yourself. I found this great colonial dress at the Goodwill a few months ago. I look for costumes all year round because you  will find the best prices at the off season times. This one is handmade by someone who did a very good job!

This is another great find. This spider costme is probably about 25.00 if you would buy it new because it is a very good quality one. I found it at a thrift store in July where I paid .79 a pound. It’s for sale right now at everythingvintagesteph.com.

Then there’s the wigs! This super afro wig is a really large one!  found this at a local auction where they were selling an entire table of costume items. I bought the whole table for around 15.00. This was sometime last year after Halloween — probably November. I kept it all in a bin until last week when I listed it on eBay.

This crazy rubber apron was in the same lot. It has eyeballs, an ear, fingers, etc. on it. Crazy!

Don’t forget the new costumes that can be found after Halloween. If you have a place to store them, you can get some awesome deals for next year! My favorite store is Target because they discount their holiday items all the way down to 90% if you can get there on the right day. It’s usually a week and a few days after the holiday.

fake rubber hand

fake rubber hand

I’ve had this fake rubber hand for a few years because I thought it was really cool. It was lying on my floor a few days after Halloween last year before it made its way back into storage. My 4 year old granddaughter saw it and started crying. She thought it was real! Gotta get rid of it now!  at  everythingvintagesteph.com!

scary skeleton mask/grim reaper

The scary skeleton is always popular. Found this mask at a thrift store in the summer. Paid very little for it and now it’s for sale at, of course, everythingvintagesteph.com! Thanks for reading and come visit me at everythingvintagesteph.com!

Selling vintage aprons. What are they worth?

Vintage apron

Vntage apron

Vintage aprons are a lot of fun and are very collectible! This one is a very colorful cobbler apron from the 1960s or 70s. It should probably sell for between 8-15$. The cobbler apron is one that just covers the upper part of the body and usually snaps down the front.

vintage apron

vintage apron 1950s

This one is a vintage apron from probably the 1950s. Most of the aprons from that time are handmade and can be very intricate and beautiful. The best ones will be in very good condition although if they were well used, the wear would be right in the front where you would wipe your hands over and over!

vintage apron

vintage bib apron

This is a bib apron. Very handy for covering the front as well as the lap. These can be very fancy because they would often cover a fancy dress or Sunday dress so it would not get soiled when making a meal.

vintage apron

vintage apron fabric

The fabrics used can be very interesting. They would probably be cotton if made before the 1970s. You can also find organdy (a see through fabric) or some type of lace. Fancy trims like lace or rick rack would make the apron more valuable.

There are lots of variations when it comes to aprons so it can be a fun item to collect and display. Prices are normally between 10 -20$. A recent search on eBay showed the highest amount sold was 89.00 for a vintage Seminole Indian handmade patchwork apron. Have fun looking and don’t throw away your grandma’s aprons!
