I don’t think I mentioned in my blog before that I am part owner of a jewelry store. Well, I am but I don’t do much there. My son in law does all the work and his mom also works full time at the store now. I just go in once a week to keep up with the finances and other minor details. Speaking of minor, that is MINER…. I am going to become a MINER next week.

We at the jewelry store, decided to buy a few mines out west and see if we can find any of our own gold and silver instead of just scrapping other people’s gold and silver. This is very interesting. I don’t understand it all yet but I am going to try to blog about it.

So, we bought the rights to a few different mines in different places. I am being vague on purpose ! I am only going to write about the one mine that I am going to visit next week. This mine is in Nevada, somewhere north of Las Vegas.

Apparently, the government owns all of the land and you can only buy the rights to the mine, not the land itself. It’s not that expensive. You can buy the rights to a mine for under 500$. Then you get the exact location and directions and whatever specifics you need from the “locater” that you bought it from. You can buy a mine on eBay!

A lot of these mines have been abandoned since the early 1900s but there is still ore in them. The old time miners got out all the easy stuff — back when silver was barely worth anything.  Now you have to dig a little deeper — for bigger profits.

4 men were out to this mine last month to “scout” it out for the first time. One of those men and 3 others of us are going out again for the second time. They did bring back some turquoise and gold and silver deposits found in rocks. It all has to be processed but we can do that at our jewelry store. Later, we will be able to process at the mine since rocks don’t travel too well!

First we had to buy a bunch of equipment like tents for camping and ladders for climbing down in shafts and ropes and lots of equipment for safety. Then we had to buy vehicles to travel in.  Then we need a place to store everything in Arizona when we are not using it. Done. It’s ready for us to pick up on this next trip out.

You need a good pair of jeans to mine in!

So I want to let all of my eBay customers know that I have to close my eBay store while I am away on this treasure hunt. I love to hunt for vintage treasures and thrift store finds so this is a different kind of adventure. I may be out of internet range for a few days as well. We will be camping “in the middle of nowhere.” Literally. I’ll report on this blog on the way there if I can. Otherwise, I will report on my treasure hunt when I get back. Thanks for reading!

Right now I have 53 Halloween costume items listed on eBay. I must have done about half of those this weekend since I just went to an auction on Thursday and found piles more! I sold the Fred Flintstone and doctor lab coat within hours after listing them!

Halloween costume -- what is it???

Halloween costume — what is it???

I don’t even know what this is! Does anyone know? It is a dress, with a hood, with bloody ribs. Beats me why a girl would want to wear this or why a boy would want to wear a dress. I’ll let you know if I sell it!

Then I got pieces of costumes like this orange furry vest. What is that??

This one is kind of nice. Some medieval looking thing. They make most costumes so cheaply, not like real clothing. And you still have to pay a lot — unless you can find it on eBay!

Now this one is just like an actual dress — not cheap fabric and velcro! You could wear this anytime. It did have an original cost of 49.99 on it. But I am selling it for 18.00. Check out my costumes at everythingvintagesteph.com. Have fun!

Do You Listen to eBay radio? Lee Mirabal and GRIFF! FREE copies of the show

ebay radio free CDs

eBay radio free CDs

Did you ever listen to eBay radio? You can listen live 2 times a week. See http://groups.ebay.com/topic/Ebay-Radio-Town/Welcome/Ebay-Radio-Town/2245?#msg3924 if you want to find out about it. I don’t have time to listen when they are live but I am told that 95% of the audience listens to the archives. That is what I do. But I take it one step further and download each show and then burn it onto a CD so I can listen to it in the car. You know, when I am travelling to auctions or sales or flea markets! Like tomorrow when I set up at merchants square mall in allentown.

Then I am left with all these great CDs that I used to throw away. So I started giving them to my friend who also sells on eBay. She gives them back to me and then I was throwing them away. I don’t like to throw things away — well good things anyway. So who wants them? I will send you all of the shows that I have for JULY if you are the first person to leave a comment and ask me for them. Then I’ll get your address privately. I’ll give away august and september too as soon as my friend is done with those. Probably in my next post. WHO WANTS ‘EM?

Selling Halloween on EBAY, costumes, Eeyore, Swat team, Pumpkins and more!

Eeyore Halloween costume

Eeyore Halloween costume

I never really liked Halloween. I guess it’s all that devil and witch stuff. For years, I never sold any Halloween type stuff on eBay. Then I hit this one auction where I got about 100 costumes for 1.00 each. A good deal always overcomes dislike! That was about 3 years ago. I sold the costumes for 10-20$ each. I don’t have any of those left.

Then last year my daughter called me up from Target. “Hey the Halloween costumes are 90% off!” That’s all I needed to hear. She bought a bunch of them in her area. I have 3 Target stores in my area. I hit them all. I came home with about 50 costumes. Pet costumes too. I stored them in bins in my attic. They are selling lik crazy right now because I can list them lower than original cost and still offer free shipping.

Then I am always on the lookout for costumes at the thrift store. I buy them all year round. At off times of year, they are easy to buy because no one else is looking for them. I love the bins at the Goodwill clearance stores. Usually if I find one costume, there are more, so I keep digging. I just store them until next year. Halloween looks good this year. Bring on the candy!
